Toronto-born
Steven Pitkanen has appeared with several of Canada's main
opera companies and has received substantial praise for his
dramatic intensity and vocal agility.
Equally at ease in opera, oratorio or concert, Steven has also earned
a strong reputation for his artistic contributions to the
creation and performance of new Canadian works such as Filumena,
Shelter, The
Leviathan Hook, The Laurels and Haiku
Moments. Steven has also been featured on two
recordings for the Naxos label: Christmas Cantatas
(Bach) and Missa Solemnis / Missa Pastoralis (Vañhal).
He recenty performed the roles of Crespel, Schlémil & Luther (Les
Contes d’Hoffmann) for the Calgary Opera and Marullo
(Rigoletto)
for Opera Lyra Ottawa. Steven will next appear as a soloist with the Victoria Symphony
performing the St Mattew Passion.
