A
strong lyric tenor, Jason Hales brings charisma and passion
to the stage in every performance. His engaging charm and
sense of humour make him a joy to watch and allow him
versatility to perform in a variety of staged settings.
Hailing from Northwestern Ontario, Jason’s fine tenor voice
was discovered serendipitously by his high school music
teacher. He began his musical training at Lakehead
University with Mary (Whicher) McGhee and continued his
studies at the University of Toronto Opera Program with
Patricia Kern. While there, he
had the opportunity to study with world-renowned teachers
and coaches, including Stuart Hamilton, Carol Isaac, and
Elizabeth Upchurch. He is currently studying with Irena
Welhasch Baerg and Dr. Carolyn Herrington.
Recent engagements include: Don Ottavio in Don
Giovanni, Frederic in Pirates of Penzance,
Borsa in Rigoletto, Wilhelm in Brothers
Grimm, and Bach’s Manificat. He has
also been engaged as a soloist for Orchestra London, Thunder
Bay Symphony Orchestra, Elmer Eisler Singers, Uxbridge
Messiah Singers, Cellar Singers and others. Of note, he was
a finalist in the Jeunesses Musicales Canada Competition in
2001.
Currently, Jason resides with his
wife in Hamilton, Ontario and teaches privately from his
home studio.
