An
inaugural member of the Calgary Opera Emerging Artist
Development Program, baritone Gene Wu has been seen
on stages around Western Canada performing a wide variety
of musical repertoire.
Mr.
Wu’s most recent appearances include Moralès in
Calgary Opera’s Carmen, The Speaker in The Magic Flute and
the touring production of Naomi’s Road, both with Vancouver
Opera. Other highlights include the Canadian premiere of
Dead Man Walking as the Motor Cop & First Prison Guard with
Calgary Opera, Emilio Picariello in Filumena, Figaro in
Le Nozze di Figaro, both with the Banff Centre for the Arts,
and Guglielmo in Così Fan Tutte with Opera NUOVA.
In summer of
2007, Mr. Wu made his Toronto debut as Rossini’s
Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia, and later returned to
Calgary Opera’s 2007 production of Rigoletto as Marullo.
