Eve-Lyn de la Haye
soprano

Soprano Eve-Lyn de la Haye from Victoria, British Columbia, is rapidly emerging onto the Canadian and International opera scene. Her lyric coloratura voice impresses with its natural beauty and clarity of tone. She is a thrilling young singer spanning many genres from early music to contemporary works.

Eve-Lyn’s 08/09 season began in England at the Aldeburgh Festival where she sang the role of Lucia in Britten’s opera The Rape of Lucretia to critical acclaim. In January of 2009 she sang Echo in Calgary Opera’s production of Ariadne auf Naxos along side Wendy Nielsen, Richard Margison and Tracy Dahl, a production recorded for broadcast on CBC Radio’s Saturday Afternoon at the Opera. Other recent opera credits with Calgary Opera include Aurore in Massenet’s Le Portrait de Manon and Sarah in the Canadian premiere of The Ballad of Baby Doe.

In the summer of 2009, Eve-Lyn was invited to the prestigious International Vocal Arts Institute in Tel Aviv, Israel where she sang Tytania in Britten’s opera A Midsummer Night’s Dream. After this, Eve-Lyn travels to Montreal to sing Olympia in a production of Offenbach’s Les Contes D’Hoffmann which will tour Eastern Canada in the spring of 2010.

Eve-Lyn made her International debut in 2007 as Julie Jordan in Carousel with The Boston Pops at Symphony Hall. In an ABC television broadcast conductor Keith Lockhart exclaimed “Eve-Lyn’s voice is gloriously compelling.” During a two month fellowship at the Tanglewood Music Center she performed art song, chamber music and opera, working with coaches from the Metropolitan Opera, notably maestro James Levine.

Quickly becoming known for her ease in the contemporary repertoire, Eve-Lyn has performed frequently with Soundstreams Canada including a CBC recording of Six Voices for Sirens by Ana Sokolovic and several major works by Steve Reich. Other concert highlights include Messiah, Ein Deutsches Requiem, Carmina Burana and recitals with the Aldeburgh Connection in Toronto and at the Bayfield Festival. Eve-Lyn now makes her home in Toronto and holds diplomas from the Victoria Conservatory of Music where she studied with Selena James and the University of Toronto Opera Division under the esteemed tutelage of Mary Morrison.
