A Native of Chicoutimi,  this young soprano is an emerging talent on the Canadian opera scene, charming audiences with her pure, velvety tone of voice and her natural ease on stage.  Emmanuelle Coutu started her vocal training at the age of 16 at the Conservatoire de Musique du Québec. Then she moved to Montreal and obtained a Bachelor and a Master degree in Voice-peformance at University of Montreal. During her studies, she got two lead roles with orchestra: the title role in Cendrillon (Massenet) and Blanche de La Force (Dialogues des Carmélites, Poulenc) under the direction of Jean-François Rivest.

In 2004, she was selected by JEUNESSES MUSICALES DU CANADA to incarnate Gretel in Hansel and Gretel on a tour of Ontario and Quebec. During the national audition tour in October 2005, she was chosen by Timothy Vernon to be part of the Burton-Lowell Young Artist Program at Pacific Opera Victoria where she sang the role of Adina in L'Elisir d'Amore and the Contessa Ceprano in Rigoletto (2006). In January 2007, she was a sparkling mermaid on Pacific Opera's stage in the role of The First Maid in Daphne (Strauss) and she came back in October 2007 to sing the beautiful lead-role of Ilia in Idomeneo (Mozart), with Maestro Mario Bernardi.

Ms. Coutu is a versatile artist who likes to sing works of different styles, from Baroque to Modern music, operas and oratorios as well. During the past five years, she has been singing actively as soloist with many choirs in Montreal's area, including Harmonie vocale de Saint-Hyacinthe, Choeur Classique de l'Estrie and Choeur de la Basilique Notre-Dame.
